Project-specific quality review

Quality Assurance

Quality requirements are reviewed against the drawing, order, material, finish and inspection plan. State the records and acceptance criteria your project needs before quotation.

Define the quality evidence before production

The site states ISO 9001. Project acceptance still depends on the released drawing, purchase order and agreed inspection plan. Define what must be measured, recorded and approved for the specific order.

  • Controlled CAD, 2D drawing, revision, datums and critical characteristics
  • Material, finish and traceability requirements
  • Inspection scope, sampling or first-article expectations
  • Required report format and approval route
  • Deviation, change and final-acceptance responsibilities

Inspection planning for CNC parts

Quality planning starts with a review of the controlled files, purchase order and project requirements. Supplier DFM feedback can identify manufacturing risks, but the buyer remains responsible for final design approval and release.

Inspection methods, timing and records are selected against the part features and the agreed order requirements. CMM results, first-article inspection, material records or traceability documents are project inputs to define in advance—not default deliverables for every order.

  • Review CAD, 2D drawing, revision, datums and critical dimensions
  • Confirm material, finish, quantity and inspection requirements
  • Agree measurement method, sampling or FAI scope and report format
  • Define nonconformance, deviation, change and final-acceptance routes
  • Reconfirm the inspection plan when the released design or order inputs change

Inspection methods and records

Available inspection methods and records depend on the feature, material, finish and agreed order plan. A buyer may request dimensional inspection, CMM measurement, first-article documentation, material certificates or traceability records when those requirements are relevant and confirmed for the project.

For a useful review, identify critical features, datums, tolerances, visual requirements, report format and document timing in the RFQ. The agreed scope—not a generic equipment list—determines what evidence is produced.

  • Dimensional and GD&T inspection for defined characteristics
  • Surface, visual or finish checks where specified
  • Material or lot documentation when required by the order
  • First-article or sampling records when included in the inspection plan

CMM inspection reports and quality records for CNC machined parts

For a precision CNC order, the useful quality record is tied to the actual part, drawing revision and lot—not a generic statement that a shop “does inspection.” Sendot can review requested CMM dimensional reports, first article inspection (FAI), material certificates and traceability requirements before production. The report format, sampling scope and availability of upstream records must be agreed for the specific order.

Buyer questionEvidence to requestDecision boundary
Do critical dimensions match the released drawing?CMM or dimensional inspection report, measured values, drawing revision and measurement context. The buyer sets acceptance criteria and confirms whether the evidence is sufficient for its programme.
Can the production setup make the part before volume release?First article inspection scope, ballooned characteristics where required, and disposition of any finding.A passing first article supports that setup; it does not replace ongoing production controls.
Can the material be tied to this order?Agreed material certificate, grade, heat/lot reference and incoming-inspection context when required.Traceability depth depends on the agreed supply chain and is not a regulatory guarantee.

Quality requirements should be named during RFQ: which characteristics are critical, which report format is needed, whether inspection is sampled or 100%, and whether material/finish documentation is required. For aluminum parts, connect alloy, finish and critical dimensions to the released drawing and inspection plan. Our CNC quality-control checklist provides the pre-production checklist; if delivered parts differ from the requirement, use the documented containment and disposition workflow in what to do when parts are out of spec. For the manufacturing route, compare CNC machining and aluminum CNC machining against the released design.

Quality-documentation FAQ

What should a CMM inspection report for machined parts show?
It should identify the part and drawing revision, the inspected characteristics, the specified values/tolerances and the measured results. For GD&T features, the datum reference and measurement approach matter. Agree the report format and characteristics in advance so a general dimensional report is not mistaken for complete programme-specific evidence.
When should I request a first article inspection for CNC parts?
Request it for a new part, a complex/tight-tolerance build, a major drawing or process change, or whenever your programme requires a controlled production-release check. Define whether you need a ballooned drawing, full dimensional results, material/process records or a customer template before the supplier starts work.
Can a supplier provide material traceability for CNC machined parts?
A supplier can provide the material and lot records it has agreed and verified for the order, such as material certificates and references that connect an input to the job. State the required grade, certificate, lot/heat linkage and document timing in the RFQ. The importer or product owner remains responsible for any product-level regulatory decision.

QUALITY EVIDENCE DECISION GUIDES

Buyer decision guide

What quality documentation should a CNC buyer request?

Quality documentation should be tied to the drawing, purchase order and agreed inspection plan. Buyers should identify critical features, sampling or first-article expectations, report format and any material or finish records before quotation; availability and scope are then confirmed for the specific order.

Quality inputs to include with an RFQ

  • Controlled drawing, datums and critical features
  • Inspection or first-article expectations
  • Required report format and records
  • Material and finish documentation needs
  • Deviation, change and final-acceptance route
