Inside Our Rapid Tooling & Injection Molding Workshop

Sendot Engineering Team· Custom ManufacturingJuly 7, 2026

Filmed inside our rapid tooling workshop with injection molding in production — Sendot builds the molds and machines the CNC parts in house, so you get tooling and molded parts from one supplier. Rapid tooling gets you production-representative parts far faster and cheaper than full production tooling, and pairs perfectly with CNC machining for low-volume manufacturing.

Key takeaways

  • Rapid tooling = fast aluminum/soft-steel molds built in days, not weeks — lower cost than production steel tooling.
  • Injection molding then runs real thermoplastic parts, ideal for bridge production and low-to-mid volumes.
  • One-stop: we make the mold and machine the CNC parts in house (OEM).
  • Send your CAD drawings for a mold + molding quote.

What you're watching

This is our rapid tooling workshop with an injection molding machine in production. After a mold is cut and polished, it's loaded into the molding machine, which injects molten plastic under pressure, cools it, and ejects a finished part — repeating on a cycle to produce parts in volume. Building the mold in house means we control quality from tool to part.

Rapid tooling + injection molding, explained

  • Rapid tooling: molds are machined from aluminum or soft steel, which cut faster than hardened production steel — so you get a working mold in days.
  • Injection molding: the mold runs real engineering thermoplastics (ABS, PP, PC, nylon and more) with production-like properties and finish.
  • Bridge to volume: validate a design and produce hundreds to thousands of parts before committing to expensive hard tooling.
  • Mold + CNC together: metal parts and inserts are CNC machined in the same shop, so assemblies ship complete.

Applications

  • Product development — functional prototypes and pilot runs in production plastic
  • Bridge production — hundreds to thousands of parts before hard tooling
  • Custom parts — enclosures, housings, brackets and molded components

Frequently asked questions

What is rapid tooling?
Rapid tooling is making injection molds quickly and cheaply — usually from aluminum or soft steel — so you can injection-mold real plastic parts in days instead of the weeks and high cost of hardened production tooling.
Rapid tooling vs production tooling — what's the difference?
Rapid tooling uses softer mold materials for fast, low-cost molds suited to hundreds–thousands of parts. Production tooling uses hardened steel for millions of shots at the lowest per-part cost, but takes longer and costs much more up front.
Do you make both the mold and the CNC parts?
Yes. We design and build the mold, run injection molding, and CNC machine any metal parts or inserts in the same shop, so complete assemblies come from one supplier (OEM).
How do I get a quote?
Send your CAD drawings on our Request a Quote page. Tell us the material and quantity, and our engineers return a mold + molding (or CNC) quote with a DFM review, plus global shipping.
